Default Cheese Rolling

Some memory sharing with Ron has reminded me of this feat of athleticism/cider fuelled lunacy that takes place in Gloucestershire every year:

It's absolutely lethal. Broken bones and dislocations aplenty.

But if you win you get to keep the cheese!

Other English gems include nettle eating, sack races (basically a mile run with a huge sandbag on your back) and shin kicking.

If we are talking British sports then I must mention the Welsh pastime of Bog Snorkeling.

I thought about that Josh and decided that it wasn't really a traditional event like the ones I mentioned.

I'd put that in the category of modern classics like Tough Guy, Man v Horse etc.

Must be the water in Gloucestershire. I have distant memories of doing stupid things in Cheltenham. The sanest was eating Chinese takeaway from questionable establishments.

Only just got around to watching this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC5ykhXDDbo

If the run itself wasn't bad enough, a new variation sees a local rugby club positioned at the foot of the hill to drop anyone who manages to stay on their feet.

Utter mentalists.
