Wanted: Oly Coach

As my earlier posts have mentioned, lifting is my current focus. The problem is that I have never had any formal training in Oly lifts, which could (will) lead to injuries. So my question is this: Can anyone recommend a good Oly lifting coach that is within driving distance of Charlotte, NC. When I say driving distance, I mean 15hours max, which would put me anywhere from Kansas City, Kansas, to Miami, Florida. There are some Crossfit affiliates in my area, but just because one is qualified to coach that, does not mean one is a qualified Oly lift coach. I guess if I am going to spend my unborn child’s college fund on a technique clinic, I want to make sure I am getting the most bang for my buck. Any other thoughts are welcome.

Besides going throught USAW registry, look at some of the local colleges and high schools. If they have good sports programs there may be some good local coaches right under your nose. And since they probably don't make a fortune at the school, they may be looking to outside coaching opportunities....or go to them and ask if they would be willing, you never know what their answer may be. As for the quality of coach, well that is up in the air too....that's why I said look for schools with good sports programs.

Michael Rutherford is near KC (I think Lenexa or something). He is a certified stud and the current USWF Masters National Champ.

Good call on the USAW; I did not think about that. I found a coach on there that is only 90 mins. away, so I will give it a shot.

Would be great for an intense technique session, but I need to find someone nearby as well, in order to do spot checks.

aside from USA Weightlifting, you may want to try and post on the o'lifting forum at www.goheavy.com. Coach's and athletes from all over the country post on there. If you just post that you are looking for a Coach, someone will respond.
