This Just In: Vegetarian > Meateater

A meat eater might ask, “But aren’t humans designed to be omnivorous? Why would eating meat make us sick?” While it’s certainly true that our bodies are capable of digesting both animals and plants, our ancestors probably relied more on the latter than the former. Meat was a luxury, rarely eaten because it was hard to come by. Plants grew abundantly and didn’t run away. So the difference is in the amount of animal protein we eat today. Our bodies evolved to eat a little, but we now consume much more.

Where ever that quote came from has obviously never been out of the city. Yeah theres plenty of food on farms but head out to the desert or woods, hell even tropical rain forests and you'll be hard pressed to find food growing naturally and abundantly.
The sad thing is though is that statistically vegetarianism is better than eating meat. Statistically...

Statistically yes, because most vegetarians tend to avoid the other ills of Western society like smoking, excessive drinking, etc and also exercise. Most meat-eaters are downing bratwurst and Cokes like it's their last meal before execution.
I love her comment that iron-fortified foods are a great vegetarian choice. Isn't the fact that they have to be fortified to be a complete food evidence of their inferiority?

Meat is only as good as the source it comes from....so if you consider today's meat eater as the person who eats hamburgers and hotdogs at McDonalds...also good point about lifestyle issues especially when dealing with health the whole picture has to be examined....but if you are eating free range organic meat then it is a whole other equation...that I am sure some vegetarian will never acknowledge....

So much for Optimum Foraging Theory.
The funny thing when you get people like Mcdougal and other vegetarian advocates arguing that we are not designed to eat meat no one sat down and PROVED that the ancestral environment could even provide enough calories to sustain humans. Cordain ran those numbers....plants won't cut it and everyone ignores a thermodynamic accounting of the energy needs of our ancestors.
Eh, who cares about that sciency crap anyway.

When will science finally bow down to social issues?
