Stay Healthy, Stay out of hospitals...
Just more motivation to keep a preventative lifestyle...because only sick people are in hospitals...and now it's getting more dangerous...."health care" system? That might need to be renamed.....
Quote:
More than 90,000 Americans get potentially deadly infections each year from a drug-resistant staph "superbug," the government reported Tuesday in its first overall estimate of invasive disease caused by the germ.
Deaths tied to these infections may exceed those caused by AIDS, said one public health expert commenting on the new study. The report shows just how far one form of the staph germ has spread beyond its traditional hospital setting.

Don't worry it's only a matter of time before Big Pharma has a ["insert your favorite color"] pill to treat these infections (if they already don't).
create a disease ---> create a pill to treat the disease ---> create a marketing strategy to sell the drug ---> have the drug dealers (reps) push the drugs hard ---> make lots of $$$$. Rinse and repeat.

But the bacteria fight back.....they are no longer affected by the antibiotics....so hence people that never developed an immune system to handle these bacterias on their own are pretty much f*cked.
Funny how nature will always outsmart man and his attempts to control it....basic things work, prevention and an immune system that learns to fight for itself.....drugs/antibiotics just make a weaker defense system and easier target for bacteria...which is everywhere., it's just a part of nature.

Sorry but this isn't new, just something the media has now decided to blow on. My Grandad died of a hospital-born staff disease almost 25 years ago. Even then the hospital had a name for it...the golden death? coz of the staff type I guess.

No nothing new....but when they say something like
Quote:

Deaths tied to these infections may exceed those caused by AIDS
|
that in itself is a shocking statement as to how out of control it has gotten....or better yet how poor the health care system has become....

I'll one up you Mike at least in regard to a special population. How to reduce your risk of contracting a Staph infection and reduce your risk of major abdominal surgery by 15-20%.

It's the most commonly performed surgical procedure in the U.S.

I never even heard of this until it was metioned here and then it started appearing on the news and other forums. Kind feels like a Vendetta movie plot in a way.

I try to take the news with a grain of salt so in the back of my mind I'm wondering "is it always like this? and now because the media is focusing it's attention upon it now everyone is up in arms?"
This is funny stuff too kind of old but I missed it when it first came out:
