Gyms, Locked Contracts, Egotistical Trainers
I was approached about this a few days ago and got me thinking. There is a series of gyms around these parts under the same affiliation that will lock their clients into 1 year or longer contracts and not allow their members to cancel their contracts or simply leave the gym when they want to. They also have a habit of hiring the most egotistical personal trainers who are not afraid to let their clients know whose boss.
I know she has had problems there before with the personal trainers telling her and others that they are not allowed to workout without them. A personal trainer even even told her she is not allowed to lose weight unless he is their to monitor. And when she wanted to get out of contract he even told her he would never lose weight without him.
Now that trainer and a couple others did lose their jobs over the past few months, But in all seriousness. The fitness industry needs to know when to cross the line somewhere. Im actually very disgusted with how the industry does things like that. Granted, I don't get a long with a lot of personal trainers especially out here and I usually let them know. I actually never found any comfort working out in a gym and found the whole atmosphere to be nerve wrecking actually.
I know that when we start getting out Crossfit Affiliates out here which is looking really promising right now, that I would never want to approach my future clients and tell them they can't achieve their goals without me. And I would never lock them into a position where they are forced to fork out money for a service they find no motivation to reach their potential. I try to get them to understand that the "idea" of the fitness standard for a perfect body is not a healthy one. You don't need to go on these pay-for-diets to try and lose weight or spend 20 minutes on the "butt"-blaster ( which I had no idea what the hell a butt blaster was untill a few days ago). But trying to get them to see past that is impossible, it's like trying to get an islamic man to understand a democracy. They just don't want to put the time or effort in.
There is really no point just a rant. As I tend to rant off about things a lot that grind my gears and this is one of them. Maybe when we get our CF affiliates started out here that line of thinking will change and we can start getting people out here to realize their full potential with supportive and motivational trainers who are in it to help them and not hurt them.
