Pumpkin seeds
I was researching magnesium because I've learned that many, many Americans don't get sufficient amounts of that mineral. Also magnesium seems to play a significant role in muscle repair and recovery. (See http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/72/2/585S) Which is why, I suppose so many of you really like ZMA supplementation.
So I looked up magnesium content of food, and found that 1/4 c. roasted pumpkin seeds contain 303 mg. of magnesium.
This may be old news around here...

Susie,
You're right about the magnesium deficiency epidemic.
As far as nuts and seeds go, they are difficult to digest at all past the chewing stage. This is much different from the lab analysis that found high magnesium levels in the pumpkin seeds, where everything was completely chemically & mechanically broken down. Anyone who eats a lot of nuts/seeds has seen them in their stool (it's part of their "purpose" to not be digested well).
What I'm getting at is the "amount" of magnesium available in nuts/seeds is directly proportional to how well you chew them. It's also one major reason I don't eat too many nuts anymore, when I do it is in the form of nut butters.

Along the same topic, Hemp protein powder. I've had a jar in fridge for months, and recently decided to finish it. During the week of daily use I had great results at the gym. The brand I use is nutiva: here's a link to the nutritional info: http://www.globalhempstore.com/hemp-...in-powder.html
I've read here that nutrients tied into the fiber isn't digested or absorbed, or at least not all of it. The 2 reasons I re-bought this brand was because it's higher fiber content, both soluble and insoluble, and higher mineral content.
After reading what you said about seeds, is it similar to with hemp protein?

Jordan,
I'd assume that hemp protein is similar to nut butters, being *very* "well-chewed" already by the time you eat it. I use Nutiva brand out of my office as well.
I take a Tbsp (~600 mg of Mg) of Natural Calm every morning, sometimes double that or more on Tucson summer days with long metcon bike rides!
One last thing...always chew your shakes!

Mg at night = no sleep for me.
When I tried ZMA I had to use it in the am and that's when I take my Mg now, when I remember to, which I haven't been lately...
