Default Floor Press

I would really like to incorporate a bench press into my program, but I don't have a bench, and I have limited space in garage. my garage consists of a squat stand and bumpers and bar. I tried to do a floor press a couple of days ago, but it didn't work out that well. I couldn't really get under the bar and I was nervous about dropping the bar on my neck. does anyone have any recommendations or different exercise(s)? I don't have dumbells, and don't really want to buy them. Thanks.

Dave-
I've been on a ring dip terror of late and I'm really enjoying it. Not quite the same thing but a great stimulus and relatively easy to rig together. Cinder-block push ups are also fun and can be shifted towards the spicy side by plyometric variants.

There's also ring pushups (with or without a weight vest) and the Power Pushup 2 from Lifeline USA.

Dr G. that is a cool link. I have been using a green band for the same thing.

I don't bench...I use pushup handles (to elevate hands and get more ROM), can also elevate feet on a cinder block, and my favorite is alternating between using a 20lb black band like mentioned above and a backpack with a 25lb plate in it. All suck on their own merit...in a good way of course.

Also variations include using pushup handles and doing:
- plyo claps
- pushup around the clock and back (360 both dir)
- Walking forward pushups (one arm out in front and alternate)
- Walking backwards pushups
enjoy.....

Any variations of rings pushups. I can give you lots of hard ones if you want.

Thanks guys. I will have to experiment. I actually do have Elite Rings, I just haven't hung them in my new garage yet. Hopefully the landlord won't mind.

which reminds me of (links are WFS)
Playing with Ring Pushups (Nicole)

Coach Rut's Warrior Pushups
(I guess not really a weighted/strength deal, but whatever)

And I remember seeing some other CrossFit-related video of all kinds of pushup variations, like plyo, elevated... I feel like it was filmed in one of those cool NorCal gyms but I dunno.

And I guess there's http://www.bodyweightculture.com/ too.

I was thinking more of this beside Nicole's:

Although there's harder stuff out there.

Inspired yesterday I took the 25lb backpack to the park and did,
- reg pushups
- dips
- and what almost killed me...walking hands and feet down stairs head first with a pushup with every alternating step. (stagered arms)
- add some hill sprints for fun

That hurt....and still does...
