Mike - I think (hope) John was being sarcastic. Don't take it personally.
Will PTP work? Possibly. It's a legit program. But the only way you'll find out if it works for you is to try it. Give it a legit chance for several weeks or so and see what happens. Then you can report here how it went and help the next guy who is curious.

I heard Flickr was outlawed in China. Unfortunately there hasn't been any new pics in a long time. Damn Communists!

It wasn't exactly sarcasm from me...
This is a great forum where people share a lot of help and advice, but in the end, what Mike needs to do is start his routine and see what happens. Pavel is a known "fitness celebrity" and his works are reviewed all over the internet.
I'm just saying, asking for some advice is cool, and people here like to give it. But talk is cheap, speculating about what a program might do isn't actually doing it, and nobody gets huge/really strong/shredded without working hard for it (stop worrying about putting on too much bulk already).
So maybe I come more from the "shuttup and do it already" school than most people here, but I also think that most people here know my comments are generally made with good spirit.
Mike, as a new guy, you might not have known that, but now you do. Lift some crap, eat well, and post some results!

I've ran the full gammet in regards to training the past 25 years. I started in powerlifting, then went to bodybuilding, then lamented and tried to be a power bodybuilder wanting to become better at his sport/hobby.
Then I ran into a lot of the folk in this site over at xfit. Since that time I've incorporated the oly movements, kettlebells, and met con style training (my sport). Actually used my sport training as met con - doing tabata sprints, etc.
I've lost a lot of bodyfat, held my weight pretty constant, and gotten way stronger than I was when I was powerlifting/bodybuilding/power bodybuilding. But what's more important to me is that I'm older and nothing hurts the way it used to. Heavy weights day in day out is brutal on the joints. I had no concept of periodization when I was training until I became part of these communities.
If I could go back and do it again, I would have started the olympic lifts and kettlebell lifting during my teens. I would have bought myself some bumper plates, a few good bars, some squat stands/power rack/or adjustable blocks, built a platform, and a full compliment of kettlebells.
Knowing what I know now, I could have built myself into something more or less than what I am now. Either way, I know I'd be a better athlete and I'd be fitter. But I'm sure we could all say that to some extent. Just takes a while to figure out what works best for us.
All the best,
Arden

Thanks for the replies everyone. Seems like the consensus is to give it a go and see. My diet is pretty clean as I just dropped about 30 pounds and am about 158 pounds at 5'11. Want to get stronger and build some definition. I'll give PTP a go as outlines and report back.

I think you'll do well on PTP for a good while, eat lots of meat and veggies and no skimping on the good fats!

I followed PTP for 3 months about 6 years ago. I had success with it. However, I modified it.

Vasely Alexeev, the famous weightlifter, did not incur great fat loss, despite his intensive heavy lifting.

I'm guessing he ate like a sumo wrestler too.....exercise is only a good stimulus for fat loss if the diet is on....and eating twinkies with a gallon of milk is probably not going to get anyone a six pack....unless it was Bud Light while he was out getting his milk and twinkies.

Yeah... superheavies aren't exactly the right guys to use as examples. Their nutrition intentionally far exceeds need - they're essentially trying to gain weight their entire careers. Their body comp really isn't a reflection in any way of the training.
