Default Tall Snatch/Clean?

How do you really do these? Is it a violent shrug and drop under the bar? Shrug, calf extension drop? A type of muscle snatch ending in the catch position?

I've watched the video of the tall cleans, but I can't break the movement down by watching it. I was wondering if I can get some clarification on this.

A bit of layback and an aggressive shrug and you're going down. Try not to get much ankle extension. It's not an easy lift by any means and takes a lot of confidence.

Thank you, Coach...I will put that to the test for today's tall cleans.

So for yesterday's WOD, would 60% of max snatch be near max for a tall snatch?

...wait...no tall cleans today...clean pulls instead. I need to work on those too.

I personally prefer Tall version of both the snatch and clean. It's really taught me to finish my pull in order to get under the bar relatively speaking. I've got a long way to go, but I'm a firm believer in working on these movements (squat clean and squat snatch) from the top down.

I was working with some oly coachs from Minneapolis a couple weeks ago and they said the same thing. They called them Quick pulls, but basically the same movement. It made their job much easier teaching HS athletes both the snatch and the clean.
