i think it depends upon what you're doing.

For powerlifting squats - the weight needs to be on the heels as the appropriate power position and maximum strength for most is achieved when the shins are as close to perpendicular as possible.

For squat cleans, snatches, etc. - throughout the movement, the weight position on the feet changes. But when you're drivin out the hole, at least I return to driving from the heels, but not as much as do when doing the types of squats listed above.

Personally, my thought is that with OHS and front squats the weight on the foot is more centered. Both on the ball and the heel - balanced. At least it is for me.

What I'm having a hard time getting though my thick skull is how the weight should be distrubed on the foot when you pull.

When I deadlift, I pull from the heels. I drive my feet through the floor, from the heel.

But when I clean or snatch pull, I start that initial drive from the heel, then try to balance it out when I go into the scoop or power position. It seems to me that the balance would need to be on both the aspects of the foot when you're getting ready to jump. you don't jump efficiently from your toes and you don't jump efficiently from your heels - there needs to be balance.

Am i remotely close on this. I got now clue. I am but a padawan.

I've seen pics of greats where you can actually see some space under their toes during the pull. A little rock back to forward. Was this in the Tommy Kono book? I forget.
You can also see it in Yoon's pull!

I know repeating heels to myself before a blig clean or snatch (along with arch, and jump) helps me a lot.

Ahhh, garmx......we won't even get into what my screen name is on that place.

So does this mean that you pull from the heels throughout the movement?

I don't know if I agree with that. It doesn't make sense to me. Try doing a vertical jump from your heels. It just seems counter intuitive.

I say that with the understanding that the scoop/power position/second pull is basically a vertical jump with a barbell. At least that's what I'm understanding.

I could be completely wrong about this as I'm learning. But I truly want to know.

No, I don't stay on them, but starting on them is key for me, otherwise I come forward, and that's one of those things that coach can tell off the floor if it will be a good lift or not.
If I start on my heels, I stay in good position. I was just talking about coming off the floor.
And squats, I guess. I like to feel it in my heels in squats, that's where I feel it when it's good and stable.

Strength pull/push movement through heels (like a DL/Squat)

Explosive/Power movements transfer from heels to toes (as you never see a power movement or athlete jump or run through their heels)

I just want to be able to C&J 118 KG's like the pictures John posted. I will do it in my drawers and on my toes if that is what it takes!

kewl. I'm actually learning something. I like that.

I swear, I'm coachable. :-D

My only goals with the oly lifting is to do the lifts technically proficient. I'm too old to ever think about competing. I just wanna get faster for my sport. Then someday coach my young ones in both sports, if they so choose to do it. To that end, I may end up doing some master's oly lifting just to get the one kid into it. It looks like so much fun.

Holy crap, I think Oly lifting might make you gay. I spent at least 30 seconds
studying Natalie's technique before I remembered to admire her figure (which is lovely.)
This both highly unusual for me and greatly discomforting.
