Weightlifting Books
Hello All,
I'm trying to compile a nice library of books on weightlifting so I can get myself as educated as possible on the lifts before going to any Coaching certifications. I may even go to the Moorestown training week the first week of July if I can swing it. I'd love to actually get to some gyms that have platforms and train with other lifters just to get a feel for the lifts, etc.
In any event, I've got Kono's Weightlifting Olympic Style, Newton's Explosive Lifting for Sport, Schmidt's bad ironmind book with dvd that won't work, and Dan John's from the Ground up. Last night I got Artie Drescher's Encloypedia of Weightlifing - good lord, it's going to take me a month of sunday's to read that thing. Small print, double columned prose, and very few illustrations. She's gonna be a struggle, but I ain't no quitter.
Are there any other good books out there I should add for my collection/influence/osmosis?
All the best,
Arden

That's a good list already. The other one I'd add would be Essentials of Weightlifting and Strength Training which is giant, has great pictures, covers all kinds of stuff, and is more fun to read than Artie's book (in my opinion).
I posted a little on Dr. Hewie on my blog here: http://bastardolifters.blogspot.com/2008/02/dr.html
I like Kono's a lot.
Dan John's I read before I even tried a (weightlifting) snatch and was good prep.

Email him and ask him for an updated dvd... The book isn't worth much, but the dvd is worth having.

You'll enjoy. It's kind of a trip sometimes, but full of good stuff, and a couple of suggested workouts I like.
