DREW - Journal
Thursday 05-15-08
Stress: High
Diet: Good but low carbs
Workout: Night
Weight: ~200 lbs
Today I am truly embarrassed. I've been out of the gym now for quite some time, possible 2 years or more. I had convinced myself that I was still strong and could still throw some weight around. Today I was humbled. This is my first workout in my new garage gym.
Power cleans:
50 - 8/6/3
Pain in my wrist and right elbow possibly because I am receiving it out in front of me.
Standing Military Press
50 - 8/6/4
Easiest of all
Front squat
50 - 2/1
BW - 10
Disappointing.

First off welcome to the training logs.
Secondly, any time you take time off like you did it always seems to be worse then it really is when you come back. Take your time, ease into it and you will be surprised at how quickly it will come back. Your body will guide you.
Thirdly, if your stress levels are high then make sure that you use your time in the gym to decompress and not stress over where you are with your numbers. You don't want to add to your stress level with focusing negatively on your lifts.
Post up, have fun and let us know if you need anything.

I agree Derek, but I think that first time in the gym after a long layoff is unique. I hope it won't continue. I am considering lowering the weight I am using and doing much higher reps to get my tendons a little more used to what I am doing. My right elbow tendon that connects to my tri is absolutely rocked.

Weigh in 200 lbs
My wrist is about 80% I don't feel any pain while doing normal activities but if I push it too much I do get pain. I am going to resume lifting light weight for a week.

Right around my last post I messed up my back pretty bad splitting wood. I have had back problems since I was 15 with spondylo. About two weeks after I started going to a chiro to put things back in place. Yesterday he cleared me to start doing some weight training. So I am back. Looking to take things relatively slow with a real focus on my back.
So I am back. Weight is at 189.
