Default The 'modified corn starch' found in dressings

My favorite food as of late has been the sardines packaged in hot sauce. I took a look at the ingredients and the only one that had me suspect was the modified corn starch. Now, I understand they put this stuff in dressings and whatnot to thicken the paste so as to allow it to stick to the food rather than dripping off...but how horrible is this for your body?
