Would an individual be able to generally snatch more weight with landing in a snatch drop or a split snatch. I'm assuming snatch drop because all the Olympic athletes generally land in a snatch drop but I wasn't too sure because of the rules and regulations at Olympic weightlifting meets. Thanks.
One could do either style at an Oly meet. I have started split snatching but I am fairly new to the sport and do not really need to worry about supremely high numbers in this lifetime
Thanks. I have to be honest that I don't know every rule or regulation in an Olympic meet, I just remember when watching the Olympics I never saw a split snatch.
Both the split snatch and squat snatch are legal in a Weightlifting competition but the split snatch has fallen out of favour because with very few exceptions lifters can lift more in the squat snatch. Same deal with the split clean. The only place you tend to see split snatch and clean is at masters competitions.
All things being equal, the squat will allow more weight - but all things are not always equal. If an athlete has irreconcilable flexibility problems, he or she will be able to snatch more with a split than a squat simply because he/she is unable to support any great loads in the squat. But the split requires elevating the bar higher.
For me I switched due to a shoulder issue, it was not a question of the flexibility in the squat. Now I am taking a short hiatus from Olifting to work specific rehab on my shoulder--not sure where my SN will go!
