Default Kettlebell... cleaning?

I recently acquired a 24kg kettlebell. Thing is, when I use it, my hands get covered with these kind of small black flakes... not sure that's the right word, but I was wondering if there was some special way to clean it to prevent this from happening?

I know it'll probably stop doing this with time, but I was thinking there has to be a way to just get it over with. It's kind of annoying this way. Should I just rub the handle with a wet towel, or what?

Sand/grind off the coating where you grip the KB. If you look around some of the more GS-style KB boards, I'm sure you'll find plenty of specifics on how to go about it.
