Default 27-Jun-2007: Empire State Games

Weighed in at 72.9 kg.

Man, my snatch warmups stunk! Fell flat on my ass with 60kg twice. Barely made 65. Was going to open with 75, but coach dropped me down to 70.

For clean and jerk warmups, wrist/hand started affecting things around 80kg. Dropped from 90kg opener to 85kg.

Snatch:
70kg make (barely, almost ran off the platform).
75 make. Felt better than the 70.
78 make (competition PR).

C&J:
85kg make.
93kg make (C&J PR, more importantly Jerk PR).
97kg make (C&J PR).

My 20-year-old teammate whom I edged at qualifiers edged me this time by 3kg. He C&J'd 103. Oh well. The Toll House chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich I ate afterwards turned my frown upside down (it doesn't take much to cheer me up). And I'm happy for him as he's been working his ass off these days.

And a big shout-out to Chevanne (sp???) at Kneaded Bodyworks.

97kg at 72.9kg is pretty damn impressive to me. See you in a week or so.

103, damn, he's breathing down my neck! But I have some secrets left in the bag to pull out...

Default 05-Aug-2007: Connecticut Open

Weighed in at 73.7kg (and this was after I purged what seemed to be at least 1kg...sorry, TMI).

Had no idea what to expect going into today.

Warmup was nuts because one minute I was told I had 10-12 attempts before me, then the next it was 3. Whoops.

Snatch:
75kg Miss (lost it behind me)
75kg Make
79kg Make (Competition PR)

Clean and Jerk:
92kg Make
97kg Make (tied Comp. PR)
100kg Make (PR)...not sure how the Hell I held this.

I think I missed 3rd place by 1kg...doh! It was a lot of fun though, and it feels great to be finally in the triple digits.

General Observations:
I felt pretty light and springy today. On my snatches, I just thought "When the bar passes my knees, I'm just going to extend with everything I got." I felt like I had 82 in me, but alas, lifted conservatively due to missed opener.

It was a Performance Menu party there...I think we had like 6 or 7 people there. Extremely cool. Pics to follow as soon as I finish eating.

Well, at least the mystery of the ~5000 hits on my journal has finally been solved.

You mean the ladders? There's a post on the PM here:

Our Jeff Scott is a huge fan of these types of gradual progressions (not necessarily just ladders, but any type of program where you use structured, progressive loading). I guess the tough thing for me is staying committed to them, as some days Joe wants me doing something entirely different, squat-wise.
