My whole motivation for O lifting is the ability to throw weights around and make lots of noise. Call me "Bam-Bam". That and the really large plates that intimidate everyone but really only weigh 10kg!

Besides if they don't like noise, have they heard some of the music that gets played in these places?

Default 26-Feb-2007: Going Through the Motions

Arghh! I was blessed with a case of food poisoning this weekend that really threw off my schedule. Between looking for a new apartment, preparing for my move, art classes, work, and the occasional projectile vomiting, I haven't really had the time to head over to LBH or the gym.

I've been doing broomstick snatches so I (hopefully) won't be too rusty when I head to LBH on Wednesday.

haha, good point. Perhaps I'll sign up for a trial membership to test out the waters.

With 50k, were you jumping tall buildings on those backsquats?

It sure felt like it. Coach told me to do these to complement the speed work.

Hamburger hands, nice.
Am trying to decide between trucking up to LBH or local gym, which has no oly but saves me hours in travel time on this nice nice Saturday.
Enjoy art class.

Default 05-Mar-2007: LBH Total

Change in plans. I was informed Monday that I need to attempt a simulated comp. total twice before the next formal competition (roughly once per 3 weeks).

I had to total sometime this week, so I figured what the hell and attempted today instead of Wednesday.

Snatch:

Warmed up to 60kg.

Attempt 1: 65kg, good
Attempt 2: 67.5kg, good
Attempt 3: 70kg, good (PR)

Clean and Jerk:

Warmed up to 75kg

Attempt 1: 80kg, miss
Attempt 2: 80kg, miss
Attempt 3: 80kg, good

Comments:
My timing catching the cleans was really off. I was pulling way too high and catching very low, so the bar would crash about 6 inches down on me, I think. On attempt 2, the bar whacked me in the throat. I caught attempt 3 off balance (forward), but managed to stand up with it, at the expense of my right butt cheek.

I had to work really, really hard for that 70kg snatch. The pulls are getting easier, but my OHS mechanics falter when I approach maximal weights...I just couldn't get my butt back and the weight on my heels.

I think I tried to rise twice, and finally got it on the third rise. I was happy to get it, but from the sound of it, my teammates were even more excited. I guess I was down in the squat for so long there was a great deal of suspense.

I'm FINALLY starting to get the feel of 'arms like ropes' and that's probably why my pulls felt stronger than usual last night.

Finished off with light OHS:
20x10
25x10
30x10

The snatch at 70 was epic. It was the loudest cheers I think I ever heard in training. Congrats, man.

Thanks!

I can't recall who screamed the loudest: Joe, Jeff, you, Dennis, Jimmy or Oskar. Good thing I was lifting on an empty bladder, as I really did exert myself on that one

Thanks Allen! 70 was the monkey on my back for a while...I'm hoping the road to 80 will be a bit smoother
