Meal Replacement Drink for Elderly
I'm looking for help finding a meal replacement drink for a healthy, 75-year-old male. He is time-constrained and has been losing weight lately, and I don't want to go with Ensure, which is riddled with junk. Does anybody have any recommendations?
Much appreciated,
Neill

75 yr old "time constrained"? How about he get's his priorities in order?
Forget the shake, though it's easy enough to make, tons of recipes, better he should cook some food the evening before, then eat going out the door or where ever a 75 year old needs to rush off to!!!!!!!!!!

Jay,
Please trust that I'm asking for what the situation requires.
Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I can't think of any reason why his age would really make much of a difference. When I've had people ask me about this (I'm a pharmacist) I've always told them get a few different brands and flavors and to make the decision based on palatability.
To name a few that are basically everywhere: Muscle Milk, Myoplex, Ensure, Glucerna, etc...
The most important thing is get the calories/nutrition in. I'm assuming you want pre-made just pop the top and drink.
Milk and chocolate milk may be option depending on circumstance.
What "junk" are you worried about the Ensure?

Whole milk and chocolate milk are stupid easy and taste a lot better than any of the protein shakes. I'm pretty sure if I tried them on my grandpa he'd tell me to go to hell.

How many calories are you looking to get in? Is this person very picky? Do you know what kind of flavors they like?
Any dairy issues? Whey is a good start for this if they are OK with it. Hemp protein would add fiber. Figure out what carbs they like, add those, and add some good fats.
The artificial ingredient lists in the pre-made meal replacements are really bad, I wouldn't personally do those or have an elderly person do them.
What about one of those pre-made fruit smoothies with some added protein?
