Niacin Feedback
Curious if people here have some feedback on taking Niacin. Doctor wants me to take 1G a day to lower my LDL because I refuse to go on statins. LDL is 214 and I'm really not too concerned as I eat healthy 90% of the time and get a good amount of exercise. My doctor is concerned because I eat healthy and get plenty of exercise.
I want to get a full blood profile test to see what type of LDL is in my blood. If the big fluffy type I'm really not going to worry.
Thanks

Make sure your Vitamin D status is good first, that may help lower your LDL.
This is the niacin I use instead of the prescription garbage: http://www.thorne.com/Products/Vitamins/prd~B113.jsp

Dr. G, can you offer your opinion on the differences and pluses and minuses of nicotinic acid versus inositol hexaniacinate? Heck, anyone is free to offer their opinion. The information that I've read in researching is to go for nicotinic acid based tablets.
Thanks

Wayne,
I probably don't have any more to add than you've found already. IHN has other benefits as well as the lipid effects, which is why I use it.
