What's wrong with my hamstring?
My back started to feel off the other day so I took some time off squats/deadlift/presses to let it get back to normal. Anyway, Sunday, over a week ago, I decided to do some leg curls for the first time, thinking it couldn't hurt to try to maintain a little lower body strength/mass.
I did 3 sets of 10 reps at 30kg, thinking I wouldn't go balls to the wall never having done leg curls before. Even though I was conservative with the weights, I got some serious DOMS that lasted almost a week. It's been 8 or 9 days now and my right hamstring feels great, but my left one feels like crap.
I have what feels like severely reduced ROM in my left hamstring, as well what feels like a slight swelling.
Broomstick deadlifts feel very painful, where the left hamstring feels like it's being torn apart at a certain point in the movement, and feels like it gets hot.
Broomstick Romanian deadlifts are simply impossible. I can go down a few inches, but after those first few inches it feels like I'm at the complete end of the hamstring's range of motion.
Meanwhile, my right hamstring feels absolutely fine, being able to one legged deadlifts / Romanian deadlifts without any pain whatsoever. And that's what worries me.
I've been icing regularly for 20 minutes at a time for the past 2-3 days but I'm not seeing any progress.
Looking up those symptoms, it seems like I pulled the hamstring, but I'm not sure about that diagnosis, since there was never any visible bruising and it didn't feel like I injured myself during the leg curls themselves, but rather this came about quite a bit afterwards. In fact, I probably could have gone quite a bit heavier on the curls.
What do you guys think? Am I maybe just being a pussy and those are just some serious DOMS?
Also, as for treating it, for now I'm thinking I'll simply continue icing it and possibly do some air squatting, which doesn't seem to bother the hamstring, to get some blood flowing. Make sense?
As back squatting, I can back squat a broomstick with only minimal discomfort, should I be pursuing that or avoid any kind of discomfort like the plague as to not aggravate the injury further?
