Smile what do you do un-prepared!!?

I find mylself loving Paleo when I have prepared for the week. Unfortunaltey with my schedule and flying around the country or working late nights at my down town SF Office, I find myself UN PREPARED!

So.. It's 11:30, I'm STARVING, have 20 mins to go get food to eat at my desk, had a decent breakfest, but have NOTHING for lunch!

There are numerous cafes and sandwhich shops around. I've been getting salads EVERY SINGLE DAY! I'm so burnt out on them and start making bad choices... adding cheese or more bacon to spice them up!

There has to be an more clever way to eat on the go!

What do you all do?? Again, no grocery stores close by, nothing prepared.

Just like a Speacilties Cafe, Sandwhich shops, Subway, Soup Co... etc.

Any ideas? That would more 3X week if need be? Are there frozen Paleo meals that I can keep at work? Everything I can think of will expire. Or thoughts on what I can order from these places?

THANKS!! If I eat one more paleo pack or almond I am gonna cry!

Whenever I have to go to a sandwich shop I usually order double meat and then toss half of the bread.

Beef jerky is decent, if you do it yourself.

I get 5-6 of the 3oz. pouches of salmon, walnuts, almonds and fruit.

If I know eating mid day is going to be tough I'll eat a huge b-fast with LOTS AND LOTS of fat and not eat again until the evening.

My preferred meal on the road is a fajita bowl from Chipotle. Skip the rice and beans, get double peppers & onions, triple steak, guacamole, pico de gallo, and maybe one of the hotter salsas. It totals about $13, but it's quick and pretty good quality material.

This map shows there's a horde of chipotle stores littered about the bay area. http://www.chipotle.com/restaurants/...&state=ca&zip=

Ideas that you can keep at work.
  • Can opener
  • Cans of tuna or wild salmon
  • Bottle of olive oil
  • Sea salt and a black pepper grinder
Combine and eat. Mix in veggies or eat on the side as you wish.
  • Liver tabs (Ultra 40 from Beverly Nutrition, 15 tabs gets you about 30g of protein that is Paleo-friendly, I get mine from tigerfitness.com)
  • Almond butter, big spoonful
  • Raw honey, big spoonful
  • Cinnamon sprinkled on the honey to taste.
I am personally "eating" the second arrangement twice a day at work as part of my 15# trudge to 200#...and I hit my goal last night. Liver tabs are awesome. I just saw that Ed Coan lists liver in his supplement regimen. Good enough for me!

In 'n Out Burger. 2 protein-style double-doubles and an iced tea.

Taco stand. Steak & egg (maybe cheese) burrito. You decide whether you're eating the tortilla or not. Maybe two of them, or make the second bean & cheese if you want to keep the price down.

The Chipotle is a good recommendation too, I personally would keep the beans though on the rare occasion I might go there.

Being un-prepared at work is the first thing to fix though.

I could eat for two days at work at any time! Sardines, nuts, jerky...just accept that you have to have a stockpile, and do it. May not be fun food, but it's food. Anyplace that make Mexican or Terriyaki can usually hook you up with either chicken and lettuce or meat and salsa. With paleo it definitely helps to become OK with being a massive pain in the ass at resturants!

I havent eated liver in years...cant find a good fresh source near me.

Any reason you choose beverly liver tabs Garrett? They look expensive(considering the main ingredient is usually considered dog food!).
I just found universal nutrions tabs, 500 for 16.73, apparently Argentinian grass-fed.

The Beverly product is listed as a 4X concentrate of liver, as far as I can tell, the Universal product is not (so there is potentially a lot less liver per tab). This could easily explain the difference.

I would not make the mistake of thinking liver is dog food. The liver is one of the first choice organs eaten by predators when they make a kill...they probably innately know something we don't...and the old-time strongmen and early bodybuilders loved their liver, even without double-blind placebo-controlled studies to back up their thinking.

Dogs who get liver as a "byproduct" probably do better than those that don't.

Yep agreed Garrett.
Ive ordered some of the stuff i mentioned, i wonder how Beverly get 4x concentrate though(or maybe all liver tabs are '4x concentrated'), once you suck out the moisture and fat, theres surely nothing else you want to get rid of!
