Steven how different is a legitimate gymnastics kipping pullup from a crossfit kipping pullup?
Most male gymnasts never kip pullups when training. I have never seen it taught by men's programs as a method to get pullups when doing their pullup training. Yes, some boys will swing to cheat. Sometimes this allowed with the boys who are weaker because they are weak.
However, I have seen hollow/arch kipping pullups more prevalent with girl's programs. I have never seen them work them connected though. Too sloppy. These are mainly used when a girl isn't strong enough to do them strict.
They may look something like this. However, I rarely have seen them chained as such because if a girl can chain them this fast, they are typically told to slow down or STOP KIPPING!
It is allowed by some coaches because they know certain girls are just too weak to do them otherwise. Common pullup assignments for competitive girls will be something like:
30 pullups or 10 in each grip or 3/5x10. This is generally assigned regardless the number of actual pullup a gymnast can do as a maximum whether or not they have been tested.
Some coaches will yell for form breaks, some won't. I can probably find the pullup assignments for UC Berkeley collegiate girls but seeing as they are not known as being any good that is moot really.
