I have severe problems with people being so glib about injury in the guise of "natural selection". I dislike the idea of the "Darwin Awards". But, seriously, there's something called a "bench press" you can do. Pushups are great, weighted pushups are great, but doing some kind of "max" on it just gets awkward - you will really need a spotter and it will be very awkward if you fail. Much easier to have a spotter on a bench.

People make comments like that until they themselves get hurt. Nothing wakes you up to reality more than a traumatic injury requiring surgery or hospitalization.

I respectfully disagree.
Plenty of people ER'd up from rabdo/tendon rupture/SLAP tear that just come back for more. obviously not all, but plenty.
