My only exposure to kids lifting and gymnastics is with Jr. We have worked on the squat and clean but he just loves the DL and can do it proficiently. I think he is going to have some of my physical attributes so DL'ing is natural to him.

My daughter also loves to DL. Any time I will let the kids they want to pick stuff up and put it down!

Most of my little guys liked the deadlift. Our girls basically muscle-clean the bar and we help them push-press. Considering this, I at least tried to teach them to do it with a straight/flat/arch back versus rounded yesterday. Eventually this will become a problem.

I'm still pro DL vs BS. Did do some weighted lunges and that seemed pretty good. I'm actually almost leaning to this Bulgarian Split Squat maybe. It's a hell of a lot easier to weight than a SLS or Pistol. Then again, hypertrophy.

Deadlifting in general may depend on what their gymnastics program looks like. For me,my ring work caused a fair amount of elbow tendinitis, so deadlifting further irritated this. I probably am over trained, so I'm sure this is a result. Just wanted to throw this in as food for thought.

Elbow tendonitis is pretty easy to get on rings/BW when you are working beyond where you should be.
