12 October 2011 Wednesday

Finished strong at the conference. I led class from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Couldn't get a flight home that worked out of Austin so I went and trained at GB South Lamar and then headed to San Antonio to fly home at 0 dark hundred.

I was on fire tonight at grappling. Many, many submissions were landed. I went hard with both of the black belts again. Prof Dande submitted me 2 times in our round. I will take that as a win for me.

My face is all road rashed up so glad it is a travel day tomorrow. Got to get some iron time in this weekend.

I'll be there Friday night and Saturday morning so you can show me.

You have been grappling very well and leaving no space on top.

Interested in the gains you make on the Juggernaut method.

13 October 2011 Thursday PM

Spent the entire day from 4:30 AM getting home and figured I needed to blow off some steam so I picked up Jr and went to No-Gi

No-Gi: Worked from a muay thai clinch and had a lot of success with that. Practiced one escape from mount to butterfly guard. Both of those techniques played into my game so I liked.

Grappled with one of our previous college wrestlers and I was just kind of taking it easy and was way to relaxed in half guard and he locked on an arm triangle that I am still sore from. Based on that I went arm hunting and got a me a couple. Grappled with Wes and we had a very strategic battle up until I caught him in a straight armbar and finished off the night rolling with Rich. I just ran out of gas. Plain and simple I was smoked.

Great night and as always I enjoyed my time on the mat and the fact that Jr was with me made it even better.

14 October 2011 Friday AM

Dynamic Warm Up
Foam Roll
Juggernaut Stuff

FG Press up to 95 X 5, 115 X 1, 105 X 3 X 5
FS up to 155 X 3 X 5

FG BB Curlz 45 X 20

My workout partner just closed on his new business last week and there was a whole lot of time that was spent talking instead of lifting. Happens.

14 October 2011 Friday PM

I am just one sore banged up mess.

BJJ Competition Class: We had a nutso warm up then worked from standing for a 4 minute round. I went with another purple belt my size and was able to get 3 (that's right) 3 takedowns. He got none. Really pleased with how my stand up is coming. It isn't there yet but coming along nicely. Then we grappled 3 X 6 minutes with them announcing the last minute so if you were behind you would fight like mad to get a sub or to finish strong. I would have won all 3 of my matches. Even the one against Chile which was decided by one sweep. We were right on the precarious edge of him getting me or me getting the sweep for a minute it felt like. I got lucky as he gave in and I was able to get top position.

All in all a good night and I ended up being a few minutes late to get my daughter. Darn it.

Got home and helped my dad and mom off load a 350 LB air compressor for the wash and am very sore now. Tomorrow is our annual 5K so that should be fun feeling the way I do right now.

15 October 2011 Saturday

Annual DeLand Fall Run (5K)

Jr ran his own race and finished in 26:09 which was good for second place in his division. Laney and I ran together and she did great. She ran a 31:58 which was first place in her division and actually would end up being 2nd for under 17 I think. I am really proud of both of them. They did awesome.

Here they are after the race with their medals.

Here is Laney and me on the final kick. She was determined at this moment and you can see it in her face.

Jr and his last 200 M's

It was a good morning and a good race. Off to BJJ Competition class.

14 October 2011 Noon

BJJ Competition Class: I realized that I have trained BJJ 7 out of the last 8 days. All of them have been pretty intense. This class was all grappling. No technique. Marcio talked a lot about points and how to work in a tournament.

We did 2 4 minute rounds standing only, 3 X 6 minutes grappling sessions starting from standing and 4 X 1 minute where you were winning or losing and had to fight that last minute.

Great class. I am all registered and I am as ready as I can be for the Miami International Open.

17 October 2011 Monday

AM Trained in the garage. Absolutely no giddy up today. I did a lot of movement stuff, foam rolling and lacrosse ball work. I was extremely sore and just really not feeling it. Did do some weight stuff

Press up 110 X 3 X 5
Chin Up 2 X 8

Yep that about covers it.

PM BJJ Fundamentals: Worked with a new guy and helped get him through his first official class. Skipped out on advanced and went home to see my kids before I leave for SLC in the morning. Looks like I am going to be traveling a lot the balance of the year. Drat.

Brought all my gear so that I can train out here in SLC so we will see how the timing sets up.

Have you been able to do the juggernaut method or you waiting for after the tourney?

It'd be awesome to be neighbors, together we have better equipment than most commercial gyms in the area.

I am doing all of the warm ups and I really like them a lot. I have not started any of the actual workouts as I am really just banged up and wanting to get through Miami. I have read and re-read the programming twice all the way through. Based on my understanding of what I read I need to start 16 weeks out from my "A" tournament because I don't think I could successfully complete half of the workout at this moment in time. If I start 16 weeks out I can build in 2 half volume weeks and start at a low enough level that I can build into the actual 7 week program before a tournament. I am sending you an email.
