Sucks about the shoulder.

Maybe not slow down so much as change direction?

I'm not sure how that's supposed to work. Trying to figure it out myself. I'll let you know if that happens.

Pain meds are a slipperly slope too. did you feel like the pain was starting to be more of a distraction than the meds would have been?

This is all taking me back.... Not in a good way.

Haha, yeah. If you're fighting 4 times in one day and calling it a plus side to things... your life is more interesting than mine.

Hope the shoulder's holding up through all of this.

Umm yeah that would be FLIGHTS....

26 Jan 2012 Thursday

25 minutes recumbant bike
Band work every direction X 20 minutes

27 Jan 2012 Friday

All this two times through
Scarecrow + External Rotation 5 Lb's X 10
Wrist Curlz 15 LB's X 20
Wrist Flexion 5 Lb's X 20
DB Crush 15 LB's X 20
Knees on ground push ups X 10
Plus to Cat Stretch kneeling X 20
Y+T X 3 Lb's X 10 each

2 Times through this
DB Curlz X 15 LB's X 20
DB Extension X 15 LB's X 20

My mobility is coming back fully but I am definitely not right yet. Still quite painful no matter where I move. Hoping that this is fading away...

I am really interested to see how I feel tomorrow. I am going to try and do some squats and DL's tomorrow just to get the movements going again.

This has been a larger struggle to come back from then I had planned. I think part of it is that I am busier this month then I have been in over a year. That combined with the physical problems is probably what is going on.

I haven't posted as much as usual because I hate writing negative stuff. I like to believe I have a positive attitude through all things and this has been challenging. Not sure why. I have been in a plane a ton so I have been doing some self reflection. They say 3 am is the hour that tries men's souls, so is any hour spent in thought while hurtling through the air in a silver tube. I know that I am healing and I know that I will be back to as good as I am going to get soon. I guess I am struggling with what I am going to be fitness wise. Here are the things I know.

1) I love BJJ and have no plans stopping.
2) Heavy pressing of any sort might be leaving my repertoire.
3) Running, biking, swimming and body weight movements are probably going to become more of a routine.
4) Heavy squatting and DL'ing is not going away.
5) Shoulder Pre-hab is going to be utilized daily to 4 times a week.

All that said I am looking forward to February and some goal setting. Chile I will be talking with you soon to discuss some programming.

28 January 2012 Saturday

Bike ride with my workout partner and his wife. 59:50 14.5 miles and an average speed of 14.5. My HR monitor didnt work until somewhere in the middle of the ride. I think the final average was around 134 BPM. Higher then I had hoped for but not way out.

That was a supremely enjoyable ride and I look forward to another next weekend.

Andy and Kelly are training for a triathlon and they keep asking me to do it. I will see how I feel in a month and go from there.

Shoulders are a lifelong journey. When I did my whatever to my shoulder last year, it took 9 months to get to "normal", despite the minor injury.

For us old guys, slow and steady wins the race.

30 January 2012 Monday

Arien slow and steady it shall be.

D W/U

FS up to 95 X 3 X 4
DL 135 X 5 X 2, 185 X 5 X 3

Hey guess what? My shoulder started hurting and is still hurting now 2 hours later. Not any sharp pain just a dull ache. Hmm Everything seemed good while lifting just kind of developed.

Tomorrow marks 3 weeks post-op. It also marks the beginning of an east coast 4 day trip. As of now my schedule in February is looking significantly less travel oriented which will be welcome.
