Have you ever been so excited that you just didn't know what to type, well that is where this proud father is right now. Jr competed today in his first USAG State Gymnastics Meet.
We had a great morning getting ready and Jr seemed more focused than usual. Tracy and I talked with him about this being what he had trained for all year and gave him 2 verbal cues to remind himself with. First we told him "be tight", and second "toes pointed" but most importantly we told him go out have fun and do his best.
There were 72 boys in this mornings rotation and 13 in his squad. Out of his squad Jr and Andrew were the only ones from their team. The awards were segregated with the younger boys (6 to 7 1/2) in one group and older level 4's in another. Derek turns 7 this coming up Saturday. Tracy and I told him you really need to take advantage of being one of the oldest in your group
During the actual competition all the age groups were on the floor together.
Here is the link to the video, it is WFS with one exception there is a swear word in the song. If you don't want to here it turn down the music. I can't believe I couldn't find a version of this song without swearing. Thanks to my mom and dad for recommending this song at dinner Friday night.
Here are Jr's scores for each exercise
Vault 9.20 1st
P - Bars 7.75 6th
High Bar 8.575 3rd
Floor 7.65 5th
Pommel 7.30 5th
Rings 8.85 4th
Overall 49.325 3rd Place! I am proud not only of my son but my entire family. Being a competitive gymnast requires his mom and sister be involved and I thank them for being there for Derek.
BTW I will be crossposting this thread
