Default Left arm lockout trouble

My 15 year old son is having trouble getting his left arm to lockout on the jerk portion of his CJ. At lighter weight there's no trouble, but when he gets up to or close to his max, his left elbow sometimes breaks slightly before locking completely out. There's no problem with his right arm locking out even with heavier weight. I was wondering if this is a strength issue with his left arm or a technique problem. I appreciate any and all suggestion to correct this issue.

Hard to say without seeing it. This can be a strength issue in the arm, in the shoulder, in the upper back, or a tech issue at heavier weights.

Without knowing more, I would start by recommending lots of push presses, especially from behind the neck, focusing on a very aggressive lockout position and 2-3 second hold at the top of every rep. Jerk supports might also be helpful. Jerks from behind the neck can help too to get heavier jerk weights from a position that should help him get locked out if it's more of a technical problem.

Thanks for the reply Greg. We've been working hard this week on correcting the problem using some of these suggestions. It's getting better. Thanks again!
