Default Meet Critique

Hey guys,

I had my first competition of the season yesterday and was hoping to get some feedback. I am just coming back from injury, so I hadn't hit many big weights before the meet. Anyways, let me know what you think!
Thanks.

Well you're a pretty solid lifter. It's tough to see everything from this angle but you look just a bit forward on most all of your lifts.

The first pull looks great (on both Snatch/C&J). It looks like you could open up just a tad more on some of the lifts. Also, try to pull under with your chest up; although I understand these are heavy percentages so minor faults in technique will happen.

The thing that sticks out is the Jerk. Your back foot is flat and the toe is pointed out. Keep your back knee soft as you stabilize in the split. This should naturally bring you to the ball of the foot with a bend in the knee (as much as needed to absorb the weight with your hips straight down). Try to keep a little more weight on the back foot as well with the toe pointed slightly in or even straight ahead.

I suggest doing some Split Push Presses (0:46 of this video - http://youtu.be/ZFSe8uiu5Bc) so you can get used to balancing out that weight distribution.

Thanks Blake! Added those in last night and they were definitely not comfortable. Obviously an unfamiliar position. Ill keep working at it!

Hey Blake,

I've been working on keeping the back knee soft. Went well today. Jerks felt good. However, after watching some video I am seeing what you mean about pulling under with my chest up. I was wondering if you or Greg have any drills to address this issue?

(Jerk at about 1min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3fn0HXexUg)

Thanks for your help!
Troy.

Troy,

The Jerk looks better!

Some drills that would be good for the turnover are:

Dip Snatches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOCbDez2LzM

Dip Cleans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgAMA6eFJuA (0:09)

Tall Snatches: http://www.catalystathletics.com/exe...exerciseID=217

Tall Cleans: http://www.catalystathletics.com/exe...exerciseID=150

It wouldn't hurt to do Snatch/Clean Sots Presses (Sn-http://www.catalystathletics.com/exercises/exercise.php?exerciseID=95) (Cl-http://www.catalystathletics.com/exercises/exercise.php?exerciseID=209) and really make sure you're posture is correct in the bottom of the squat.
