Default Recent snatch session

First off, thank you all so much for the great resources you provide. Your site is an amazing tool for weightlifters and coaches.

Second off, I'm looking for a few coaching tips. I train primarily on my own and I could use a few cues to improve.

My competition bests are 100k snatch and 115 c&j at about 80k bwt. I've hit a few 120 c&j's in training, but none in competition. The past two months I have focused solely on building up my front squat and pulling strength. My training has only included a few classic lifts just to maintain movement patterns. I've seen my front squat go up about 15k in about 5 weeks which is encouraging.

Anyway, last weekend I decided to work up to a HS snatch. This is the video of it:

the videos don't work, make sure when you're wrapping the "yt" tags around your link you're only including the id after the = in the url

Well this is kind of a difficult coaching angle. Your technique looks pretty good all-around.

I would suggest getting your head up in the starting position. You bring it up after you start to lift it off of the ground but I would still go ahead and focus your vision straight ahead. On the miss it looks like you're "hanging" in the air a little bit before you pull under (comparing it to the first video). It's not excessive by any means, but when you're getting to max weights it will make or break a lift. Be careful though because you doing want to cut the 2nd Pull off short just to get under the bar. Just try to work on the quicker change of direction.

You can do some Block Snatches or even some little drills like Tall Snatches or Dip Snatches to isolate that portion of the movement.

Besides that point, it just looked like your elbows were a little soft in the bottom position. So you can always work that overhead position with some Snatch Push Presses or some Snatch Sots Presses.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I appreciate the coaching points. Nearly all of my misses on heavy snatches are because of "soft elbows" and me not meeting the bar at the top. Your recommend drills/movements rarely find their way into my programming, so I'm glad you mentioned those as ways to improve...I will definitely be working them in more.

As for the angle, its the best I can do with the way my platform is oriented in my garage. I need to try to get some footage from the side.
