I'd be glad to work out a deal with you for my Ab Pavelizer 2, used maybe 10 times...
If you are really interested in Janda situps, I will tell you that "active" resistance against your calves is much more effective than the stationary, "passive" resistance you get from the DIY version you're looking at (or the original Ab Pavelizer).
Why am I willing to part with mine? Because I see no need to "super-isolate" my rectus abdominus, when I don't use that approach with any other muscle in my body...

I have a bunch of differnt bands from them. I use the ones you purchased for band sprints. I have yet to break them. Low cost, highly effective.
