Greg Everett on Mike Robertson's Podcast
Greg Everett
March 14 2012
Weightlifting
I had a great time yesterday doing Mike Robertson's In The Trenches podcast. He asked some good questions, such as Where do you place your hands on the snatch? Elbows “locked” or “long” on the pull? What is ideal neck position in the squat and/or pull? How do you improve wrist flexibility to front squat and/or catch cleans? A discussion on how to catch the bar on multi-rep sets of jerks or push presses; A cue I use to get the abs working correctly in the squat, and one bi......

Knee Pain: Patellar Tendonitis and Coming Back to Weightlifting
Greg Everett
March 1 2012
Ask Greg
Andrew Asks: Been reading your site and came across your Q&A section and figured I'd give it a shot. I am a 25yr old male, 6'3" 230. Here is my dilemma: been training (see crossfit, crossfit football, etc) for about three years now with a recent emphasis on strength gaining starting back in october of last year to prepare for a powerlifting (unassisted) comp this past march. The work mainly consisted of 3x5 squats, bench, press, and deadlift(only ever two weeks) plus conditioning on ......

Learning the Olympic Lifts Lifts at Age 40
Greg Everett
February 23 2012
Ask Greg
Vincenzo Asks: Hello Greg. I'm a 40 years Italian man. I train with weights since I was 16 years old. I stopped train at 32 years to resume in February 2011. Since then I train 3 times a week with just squats, deadlifts, bench press, press and power clean.
I would like to know how your book could help me for learning the power clean, the power snatch and the power jerk (or push jerk). I think I'm too old to learn the olympic liftings like clean and snatch, so I limit myself to the shallower v......

The Russian Baby Maker: The Best Hip Stretch You've Never Heard Of
Greg Everett
January 30 2012
General
I’ve mentioned the Russian Baby Maker a few times now on the website but have only managed to describe it briefly within a long article about warming-up. It’s a bit tough to describe without images and the name is sufficiently intriguing enough to generate quite a few requests for more information (Yes, I named it; no, I won't explain. You may be assured it's funny.)
The most important thing to know when doing the RBM is that the point is to spread the hips, not the knees. We&rsqu......

The Point: Technique for Olympic Weightlifting
Greg Everett
January 17 2012
Weightlifting
I spend a lot of time on this website and elsewhere discussing weightlifting technique, often in intolerably boring detail. Why technical proficiency is necessary and important is been mentioned with regard to things like CrossFit™ and athletic training, but it occurred to me last night that I can’t think of a time when I’ve said explicitly why it’s important for… weightlifters.
Maybe this is unnecessary and I’m concerned for no reason, but presumably you&......

Conditioning Circuit Design

Nathan Says: Hi Greg and Aimee, Before I ask a question, I'd just like to say thank you for all the knowledge you have provided in your book. It is simply the best book on the market and will be for a long time to come. It has made me a better athlete, but more importantly, a better coach for it. Thank You.
I have always been an advocate of the shorter conditioning circuit as opposed to the 20+ minutes popularized by CrossFit. The short circuits you prescribe after the workouts are excellent ......

The Simplest Olympic Weightlifting Program in the World
Greg Everett
January 5 2012
Weightlifting
I've written down this same program so many times for so many people, I thought it would make sense to put it down here for other people to use. I'm sure things that look a lot like this have been floating around for decades because it makes perfect sense and is remarkably simple. I think I may have stuck it or something very similar in a newsletter at some point in the last couple years as well.
The basic structure is as follows:
Day 1
Snatch
Snatch Pull
Front Squat
Day 2
Jerk
Pus......

Getting Ready for the New Year
Greg Everett
January 3 2012
General
2012 came sooner than I expected. 2011 seemed like a series of delays and unavoidable protraction. The day to day tedium continually prevented my completion and in some cases even initiation of numerous projects that are now stacked up in queue. My hope is that this year will be a bit smoother and I'll be able to ramp visible productivity back up to full speed. We have multiple books in progress, both from me and other authors, tons of new website content that I want to get out, and a number of ......
