Flexibility for the Overhead Squat
Greg Everett
December 12 2011

Bob Asks: Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but I could not find it in Greg’s book (which I own) or on the website. I am 44 and just starting O-lifting lessons here in Singapore. Working the normal progressions w/ a shower curtain rod.
Am nearly 6’5”, so flexibility is a problem for me…have made reasonable progress with the legs, but seem to be stuck on my overhead squat. Can barely get down to a quarter squat while holding the shower curtain rod overhead when it b......

Olympic Weightlifting & Conditioning

Ask Greg
Ryan Asks:
I have a question on your workouts. I like your programming for the Olympic lifting and find that extremely valuable and necessary. Do you recommend high intensity metcons too? I follow your lifting but find my metcon lagging. Do you recommend both? I want to train for next years CF games.
Greg Says: The answer will depend entirely on the athlete's intentions, so in your case, wanting to compete in the CF games, the answer would be "yes". (to be clear......

A Few Words with Henry Rollins
Greg Everett
November 14 2011
General
I've been a big fan of Henry Rollins for many years, from Black Flag to Rollins Band to his books and spoken word shows/CDs/DVDs. He was a very early inspiration to me as a model of self-reliance, motivation and work ethic—a guy who just wanted to put his head down and get things done without ostentation or applause, and who did nothing less than exactly what he was inspired to do.
Rollins has just release his newest in a long string of books, Occupants. Check it out along with his old......

The Push-Up: Why is This So Hard?
Greg Everett
November 7 2011
General
One of the things in my life that continually mystifies me is how something as simple and pure as the push-up has become so confusing and impossible for so many people. This is like the exercise equivalent of every adult in the world suddenly forgetting how to walk (yet still wanting to do the triple jump).
This very issue is what caused me to add planks into every day of our introductory class series. I was embarrassed by the inability of people in the gym to do excellent push-ups and decid......

Trouble with the Hook Grip
Greg Everett
October 30 2011
Ask Greg
Andy Asks: I have just purchased and am reading through your book now. Its is a great teaching tool. Thanks for it! I was curious about the hook grip you teach. I think i understand the technique, however it not really working out. The strength of the grip for me is very weak. I have been using it a month and just have trouble keeping that grip. Do I just need to give it more time? I have pretty stubby fingers. Is it just not optimal for everyone? I'm like 5'9- 5'10 (depends on who's asking). 8......

Heaving Snatch Balance: I'm Sorry for Doubting You
Greg Everett
October 27 2011
Weightlifting
Until maybe a year ago, I typically wrote off the heaving snatch balance as more of a piece in a teaching progression than a useful exercise. But in the last year, I've started using it more and more with some of my lifters and have decided it's actually one of my favorite exercises.
First, for those of you not familiar with the exercise, it's pretty simple: Start with the feet in your squat position and the bar on your back with a snatch grip. Dip at the knees smoothly and heave the bar up ......

Weighted Dips for Football Players
Greg Everett
October 24 2011
Ask Greg
Joe Says: Hey guys I am a new subscriber to your site its awesome! I have a question for you? Our OL coach (High School Football) wants the entire OL/DL to do heavy weighted dips after each workout. I am opposed to this for several reasons.
Kids use lousy form on dips!
We do Bench Press and Pushups once a week adding 5 reps on the pushups each week.( I feel that’s more than enough tricep work in –season.
We Squat and RDL once a week.
Clean and Chin-ups once a......
