If you spend significant time on a computer you should consider a standing workstation. Why? Sitting with the legs bent in a chair shortens both the hamstrings and hip flexors. This leads to increased incidence of low back and knee pain. We looked into several models of standing workstations made specifically for computers and the price ranged from $700-4,000. These desks were ugly and obviously expensive. We found this pub table and chair at Ikea for about $200.
Of even greater concern to me than shortened hamstrings and hip flexors, is the effect that prolonged sitting has on circulation through the legs, the lower legs especially. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a real and quite dangerous threat. Spending a significant portion of the last four years writing five books, has caused me to take the issue of deep vein thrombosis quite seriously.
Gradually I have changed from a regular chair, to a kneeling chair and have recently begun the search for a standing station similar to the one above.
Well done gentlemen.

Coach Sommer

Thanks Coach! I've had significant low back and knee pain for the past 3 years...about the time we launched the Pmenu! Since switching to the above pictured set-up the knee and back issues have resolved completely.
DVT is no joke...thanks for bringing that to everyones attention.

Interesting stuff, what about long periods with your feet up, like a recliner? Same effect?
