With the kettlebell in one hand and the arm extended vertically overhead, the athlete will turn the feet away from the weight side slightly, lock the knee of the weight side leg, and bend the other knee slightly as he or she bends to the side away from the implement. The athlete can turn the head to look up at the weight if he or she wants. The elbow should remain locked tightly while the athlete bends to the depth allowed by his or her flexibility and returns to the top at a controlled speed. The exercise can be made more difficult by tucking the free hand behind the lower back or holding a second weight at the side.
