Jerk Form Critique Please
Worked up to 190lbs and then failed at 202.5lbs. Current PR is 198lbs. Any and all critique is welcomed! Thanks.

hey Joe,

Technique looks solid, you have a nice split and your timing looks on-point. I think your problem, and therefore the reason your getting stuck at about two hundred pounds, is that you need to think about exploding the bar upward with everything you have in the jerk. In the vid it seems to me as if you are ccasually driving the bar while trying to drop under that weight. You need to focus on a powerful hip drive to explode that bar!
You seem to be either cutting your drive short out of fear that you will not be able to drop under the bar, or your just simply not driving enough and in my oppinion it seems like the latter.

Other than that you have solid technique, just focus on the drive which is the heart of the jerk.

To me it looks like your hip drive is lacking-but even more it looks like the speed in which you get under the bar is WAY TO SLOW. I agree with the post above, you are being too "SAFE"---throw that out the window- drop the weight if you need to bail easy as that-the first thing any lifter should learn in my opinion and i think many others is how to bail on a bad lift.

It also looks like you are having to press the bar to lock out-this could be fixed by using lighter weight-until you develop the need hip drive and speed to get under the bar.---Maybe doing some Jerk recoveries would help in your case and buiild confidence.

1) more hip drive-
2) get under the bar faster
3) Lock the elbows faster-DON'T PUSH them.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'll work on getting a more powerful hip drive, getting under the bar quicker as well as locking out the elbows faster. Jerk recoveries is a good idea too.

While we are at it here is today's session of Snatching and C&J. Looks to me that I'm having the same problems as stated above in these jerks as well. When Snatching I seem to be jumping forward a couple inches and donkey kicking too. Any cues on how to knock that off other then the obvious of 'don't do that'? All thoughts for improvement are definitely welcomed!

PR's on Snatch were 145 and on C&J 198 before today.

I'm fairly new to weightlifting so u might want to take wat i say with a grain of salt, but in ur snatch u don't seem to be getting up to full extension on the second pull and just jumping, which is probably y u jump forward so u can get under the bar.
