Nuts vs. Olive Oil
Not really a paleo question, just wasn't sure where else to put it.
Anyway, nuts/almonds/etc are fucking ridiculously expensive over here (non-roasted/non-salted ones anyway). And because of that, I have, in the past, resorted to drinking olive oil (Filippo Berio - Extra Virgin) straight from the bottle every now and then (so much more cost efficient Calorie wise). What I'm wondering, is there a reason for me not to do that - other than my friends looking at me like I just ate a live puppy and calling me a wackjob of course? |
Well, nuts are different from oils. There is a much higher absorption rate on oils than nuts. With that in mind, you get a ton more calories (something like 50% more) from the oil or nut butters as opposed to whole nuts.
Oils/Nut Butters are better if you are trying to gain weight or be most cost effective with your calories. Whole nuts are better for losing weight. |
Are you sure it's not the other way around? I was thinking that maybe the Calories from the liquid olive oil wouldn't be absorbed as well as the ones from the nuts.

Awesome. Then I have a cheap, easy way of stuffing down some extra fat.
