Safety of high-dose fish oil for the elderly?
I'm about to provide much needed counsel to my grandmother to help her get rid of the proinflammatory foods and start taking fish oil.
She has a lot of specific health problems, especially chronic joint pain/arthritis.
Thus I was planning to advise her to take 2-3 tablespoons of high-concentrate EPA/DHA fish oil per day. This is some pretty high dosage, based on her specific health issues and info I've picked up in various places throughout the internets, but I'm having second thoughts.
Is this much fish oil safe for an elderly person?
The problem with most high dose fish oil is the blood thinning.. easy to keep on bleeding for a while if taking a lot. I'd start with like 2 and go from there.
Also, get her on vitamin D 5000 IU/day at least.

Like mentioned above, blood thinning is a factor to keep in mind esp if she is taking any medications that may be negatively effected by it.
