Shoulder pain
 
I've noticed this pain, its the area with the black marking. It started on Monday, when I was doing some jumping jacks ( I doubt the jumping jacks had anything to do with it, it came on very gradual). Its not disabling or anything just a little twinge. It only bothers me when I do jumping jack or medicine ball slams or if I put my arm back in the position shown in the picture. Thanks

If you want a real diagnosis, see an orthopedic doc.

If you want a guess by myself, we can do that..

1. Google a pic and mark where it hurts.

2. What exercises hurt? Which shoulder articulations hurt?

3. What type of pain is it? Burning? Ache? Tingling? Sharp?

4. Acute or chronic? What date was onset?

5. Any previous injury history?

6. How's your posture?

7. What is your current workout routine for that bodypart? Do you play any sports?

8. Have you been training through pain? If so, how long?

9. Check the tissue quality of the surrounding muscles. Which ones are tight? Which ones are tender? Is there any swelling?

10. What have you been doing for recovery purposes?

11. Any other information I should be aware of or that comes to mind that may help?

Jumping jacks and medicine ball slams. The extensions seem to bring it on

It went from a sharp tingling I would say 5 out 10 in pain, to a very dull burning like a 3 out of 10

Acute, I noticed it last week 8/23/10
5. Any previous injury history?
Not in that area
6. How's your posture?
I try to sit upright and not slouch when I can at my desk, but I am mainly on my feet all day.

No sports. I don't do any max effort lifts for that area, maainly bodyweight stuff with the occasional sandbag lifting and medicine ball slams.
8. Have you been training through pain? If so, how long?
No, I learned my lesson years ago

Very tight and tender around the teres major and minor
10. What have you been doing for recovery purposes?
Massage the entire area, stretch and ice. I tried heat a couple of days ago and that made it worst

Need more information on 1 and 2.

I don't know where the pain is, and I'm not clear where it's hurting when you do any type of exercise.

Hope that one helps some more.

As far as the exercises go, it seems to be when I move my arm (arm is fully extened, if its bent there is no pain, only pain when my triceps are "flexed") directly back like its on a pendulim. Like in the first picture when my arm is moved in that exact fashion the re is some pain, not as much as last week.
Now I did find a tight knot where I marked it black in this picture above and used a tennis ball and the wall to roll it out and that definitly helped losen things up.

Honestly, I can't really tell anything.

Soft tissue work is probably your best bet if you don't want to see an ortho.

Best guess I can make is that's it's external rotator cuff. it could also be something with your triceps (long head) or teres major/lats insertion.

It's not too clear because your descriptions have been inadequate...
