What are the benefits of this particular press?
Recently during BJJ warmups, i've been pressing out of the plough pose and coming to a stand. i used to just do this explosively and pop up, but recently i've had fun trying to press out of this as slowly as possible.
do gymnasts ever train this press slowly as a strengthening move? i've seen videos of guys backwards rolling and popping out fast, but never in a deliberately slow manner. would this press help develop a full HSPU?
The only slow presses gymnasts would do would be controled straight arm press handstands.
In fact, there's the forward roll out of handstand into straight arm straddle press... and do them like 10 in a row if you're really proficient. Crazy hard.
There's no use doing any other bent arm pressing besides assisted or free handstand pushups which should be done much like any other bodyweight movements... aka explosively in most cases.
Full HSPU you're better off working with parallettes against the wall
hello there! there are not many presses on modern gymnastic. practically every move is done with straight arms. And i don't remember doing slow press as a body-conditioning, but again, i'm talking the 80s here when i used to compete.

bent arm back extension roll to handstand is a useful drill before teaching the straight arm back extension roll. think very early developmental roughly speaking.
it's also a bit like a peach on PB. but that's stretching it. more like a neck kip.
