Competition Preparation
 
I'm participating in my first olympic lifting competition on Saturday, so I wanted to ask the experienced lifters what they like to do in the week leading up to a competition.

Feel free to post thoughts on training, mental preparation, making weight, competition day rituals, etc.

The main thing is to recuperate as much as possible and find ways to boost your confidence. Emphasize your sleep routine, take naps during the afternoons when you can, take a few minutes now and then to shut your eyes and visualize your lifts. Lots of different ways to do that, but a simple starting point is to literally do your entire warm-up and your platform lifts in your head. I also like to watch lifting videos - but make sure you watch ones that feature good lifters doing things properly and don't watch the misses if you can help it.

I already wrote about this in my "rugby pitch to platform" journal, but I wanted to thank you again Greg.

I had a plan for what my attempts would be and visualized successfully completing them throughout the day or whenever I was zoning out in class. I think this strategy really helped me on the platform but maybe not so much during finals. I also watched the 2011 Worlds whenever I had free time.

I went 5/6 and totaled 187kg. My only miss was a 105kg C+J, which would have been a 3kg PR.
