Renegade Row shame
I can barely speak of it. I am pathetically weak in the renegade row...so much that I can only do 11 reps with an 8 kg kettlebell before losing my support with the other arm. More details in my log if anyone's interested.

Does anyone have any tips? I remember Jason C. Brown saying dumbbells work much better for it. Should I just suck it up and get some 25# dumbbells?

OK Steve, you are doing them wrong thats the problem!

You need to alternate arms between each rep doing a push-up in between!

What you were doing was a plank row for lack of a better word.

Push-up, Row one arm, push-up, row other arm...

Dude I can do this with 32kg KBS, and so can you!

OK. Would it be amiss to do them assymetrically then switch arms for the next set?

Pierre Auge 05-07-2007 01:14 PM

Sure you could do it that way but it would mess you up! The point is to keep alternating the load axially from one side of the torso to the other... But you can fry one then try the other for all I care!

be back in an hour or two need to eat.

When you do alternating renegade rows, try pushing the non-rowing hand into the floor. That will help stabilize you. So, as you are pulling with one hand, push with the other. Same thing if you were doing the "Plank row" all on one side first. You should always push the non-pulling hand into the bell/ground..

I have to ask..You are using a 8kg for the row..What size is the other bell? I really can't recommend Renegade rows on anything smaller than a 16kg bell, and that's pushing it for a guy your size.
