I have been doing what you are asking for the last 40 days. I agree with both Robb and Elliot it is hard to tell when you are zonked. I really focus on recovery. I try to get a minimum of 7 hours sleep a night and when I am trashed I will go to bed at the same time my kids do.
The other consideration is what you are training for, is mass gain more important then BJJ or BJJ more important then mass gain?
I lift in the mornings at 6:00 am before I go to work and roll in the evenings usually 2 - 2:30 hours a night. If you look under the training log section of the forum you can see my mass gain, bjj and diet log and I think Elliot has one there also (I believe his is more focused on O lifting).
