Here's the gist of it:

Metcon = work/time = power. Tons of stress on the muscles even though it's from more "endurance" type exercises strung together in a circuit usually for time or rounds.

Strength = heavy lifting. Elicits hormonal release because of heavy weight lifted. Pretty simple there.

Both have a high power output even though the strength training has pretty 'long' rest times.
