I'm not Paleo but I do use shakes in the morning becuase when I wake up at 4:30 am the last thing I want to do is make breakfast.
I typically use 16 ounces of milk or almond milk, one scoop of casein, 1 tbsp of greens powder, 2 tbsp's of milled flax seeds. I also take my first 10 of 20 fish oil pills of the day with this. I've found natural nut butters to be a great addition also.
