Is that the main reason for the platform? The equipment, or noise level? Is lifting on concrete more dangerous/slippery? I have no idea.

I'm no Oly lifter but I think it's nicer to pull on, less noisy and easier to keep your equip in fine fettle. Plenty of plans for good simpel ones out there. we just use 4 sheets of plywood with a stall matting cover,
