Does your body really need protein for "protein recovery"?
I doubt your body starts rebuilding muscle right away. I would say eat when hungry. Your body & intuition is key. getting fit & healthy should not be rocket science unless you're in serious competition like the Olympics.
Just don't eat before you go to bed even if you are hungry. That means you should have eaten about 3-4 hours earlier and your body is saying "feed me now or go to sleep".. .so go to sleep.
