When you are extending on those you miss, you don't fully extend back, and the bar travels forward off the hips instead of straight upward. I would go look at the videos of Aimee and Casey Burgener and look at how when they are fully extended they are leaning slightly backwards - this is because they have to do that in counter the weight of the force they are pulling to keep the center of gravity of the whole human-bar kinetic chain in balance.
