Kumite Classic IV
Just completed my fourth contest, the Kumite Classic. Here's the wrap-up on it.
Competed as a 175. I'm 6'2", so picture it for a moment.
Log Press for reps at 200#
-Scratched this. I keep getting better at pressing (up to 175 press, 225 push press, and 205 log push jerk), but not where I need to be.
Big 0 points here.
-Kegs were 200#, stone was 220. All sitting on the ground, had to be run down to a platform 50' away.
Got first on this event, even after faceplanting after my foot got caught on a raised seam in the carpet. Score!
Axle Deadlift for Reps at 400# (15" or so)
-On tires with a lot of bounce, so there were strict "up" and "down" commands. I got pumped up, and forgot that for the first rep, so lost one. Second one, apparently they wanted a big lockout, more than I'm used to, lost that. Went on to do 13 after than within a minute.
Second place on this.
Tire Flip, 550# tire, 50'
-Carpet issues again, but plain slow all the same. Don't know my place here.
-Got changed from a series of 200-315, to max weight at 52", Wessel's Rules. Got 250 my first go, but managed to miss 275. Probably my greatest disappointment of the day.
I need to continue to get stronger. I think I'm in the same general range as competitive 175's and 200's, but not quite there. My pressing abilities are clearly the main issue. Can't win contests if you're scratching an event!
I'm considering doing the CAthletics Mass Gain program again. I need something well-rounded, with a good bit of pressing involved. It'll also allow me to get back to Oly some more, which is usually a good thing.
After that, I would like to find a program that will be well-rounded on the strongman side of things, rotating through all the major implements, and continue to focus on the pressing work.
