basically focus most efforts on the strength development. only do the metcons to gauge your progress, but not to make progress.
i recently had my biggest taste of that after not doing any real metcons for about a month. i instead just increased my volume on all of my high intensity work. a friend of mine was doing a metcon one day, so i joined in for fun. i flew through it much easier than normal.
